Kunle Shobowale

The name, Kunle Shobowale might not instantly ring a bell in the minds of Nigerians, but the exquisite and eye-catching works of this architect – turned – designer will make anyone’s jaw drop.

Using the platform of his interior architecture and design company, Liquid Interiors; which he established in partnership with his equally talented South African Wife Sithabilc Mokgokong, Kunle has attracted and worked for a long List of the most elite clients in the world of Luxury architectural designs.

South Africa-based Olakunle Shobowale’s works include world Trade Centre, Dubai (where he designed the structures for 450 guestroom hotel, ground floors and rooftop bars); Grand Chola Hotel India (with 5 – star guest rooms and 7 – star suites); South African’s Department of Foreign Affairs Guest House, Waterloo, Pretoria (5 – star presidential guest house, suites and lounge); Lobby Guestroom of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, UAE (60,00m2 twin – mirrored 14 – storey office towers and lobby banking hall); and Capital Plaza Abu Dhabi ( a 32 – storey, 256, 5 star millennium hotel and bar lobby).

Kunle Shobowale architectural Company, Liquid Interior is a multi – disciplinary interior design studio based in Hong Kong and South Africa and known for creating innovation and memorable green environments that connect objects, space, ideas, personalities and lifestyles.

The company has a combined international experience of 16 years gained from working on leading hotel brands in Asia, the middle East and South Africa Shobowale’s influences stem from having Lived and worked in several cities – Lagos, London, Miami, Nanjing, Singapore and now Johannesburg.

His experience in interior design, whilst working for top international design firms, includes the Pearl Qatar, Riviera Arabia, a private island living project for the United Development Company.

Educated in three countries-University of Lagos, Nigeria (B.Arch, B.Sc, Architecture); Florida International University, USA (BA, Design) and University of Westminster, England (MA, Architecture). Olakunle’s experience goes beyond architecture and design and into the more practical role of project management.

After a 10-year stint in Singapore where he worked for ESPN, Norman Foster and freelanced for Wilson Associates, he moved to South Africa, where he co-launched Liquid Interiors with his wife Sithabile, who also has deep-seated training and experience in interior design.
