The Extraordinary Sights in the Lekki Conservation Centre
Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC) is a 78-hectare (190-acre) Natural Resource Conservation in Lekki, Lagos State.
Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) runs and manages the 21-year-old conservation centre.The structure is intended to set aside a natural habitat for plants, and as urbanization has led to the destruction of areas intended for these animals and plants.
A visit to the conservation centre will enlighten you about natural habitat, the way they live and gives you an open view of nature.
ORIGIN OF LEKKI CONSERVATION CENTRE
From History, the centre was said to have been established in 1990 to serve as biodiversity conservation icon and environment education centre.The facility was built by the Chevron Corporation for the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), as a reserved sanctuary for the rich flora and fauna of the Lekki Peninsula. The company has since provided annual funding for the management of the centre.
In 1987 the NCF technical team, in cooperation with the defunct Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative, surveyed three possible areas to launch the conservation project.
Afterwards, Lekki area was chosen to create the conservation project demonstration site.Locating the Lekki Peninsula conservation project told the project name- Lekki Conservation Centre.
The Nigerian Conservation Foundation founded the Center to protect the wildlife and mangrove forests of the South-West coastline of Nigeria from urban development threat.
ABOUT THE LEKKI CONSERVATION CENTRE
The LCC is one of the most recommended places for family picnic. With many fun thing, places and animals to play with, the centre features a lot of amazing sights.
1) The Longest Walkway Canopy in Africa, which was constructed by 13 Nigerians and supervised by two Canadians, the 401m Canopy walkway launched in 2015 is not a climb for the timid. The climb of the bridge is sure to bring out the other side of you especially for ladies.
2)The Nature Park which shows all kinds of animals from Monkeys, to the beautiful Peacock, crocodiles, snakes and other wildlife, you’ll see all of these at this reservation spot.
3)The Big Chess Game,which after an enthralling climb of the Canopy walkway, you can play Chess and other games. The chessboard is designed on a floor with 16 big pieces.
HOW TO GET TO LCC
As a foreigner on a visit, after alighting at the Lagos Airport, you can take a taxi straight to Lekki Conservation Centre .
Alternatively, you can get there through an intra-city bus, just board a bus to either Obalende or CMS Park. Then get another bus heading to Lekki/Ajah, from either of these locations. Alight at Chevron Bus stop and take a very short walk to the Lekki Conservation Centre.
