Badagry goes agog as Oyotunji sign Cultural Bond

Badagry goes agog as Oyotunji sign Cultural Bond. A world known historical place and tourist destination, it has been in existence since the 15th century during the Trans Atlantic slave trade, situated in the city of Lagos and border with Republic of Benin (Seme).

Today, Badagry stands as a very enchanting, peaceful, and fruitful kingdom. The inhabitants are many and can be seen going about their lives either farming, grazing and fishing. The historical background of Badagry facilitated the unveiling of the ATLANTIC BOND INITIATIVE – ATBONDI led by Barrister Rotimi Vaughn.
While delivering his speech, Barrister Rotimi Vaugh said the Initiative organised the historic-cultural event for the development of strategic promotions, exchanges, relations and ties between Lagos State,  the city of Badagry NIGERIA, and the State of South Carolina the city of Camden and Oyotunji African Village, Sheldon, USA.

As a direct descendant of Ex-slaves, history has revealed that slaves left the land with cries, bitterness, humiliation, and suffering,  but have come back to Badagry in their spirit to appease to their gods and assuring that there will be great radical transformation and prosperity. It is a new dawn for the region especially in the areas of tourism, arts & culture, trade and commerce, agriculture, education, youth and social development, academic institutions alliances, advancing humanity, while combating modern slavery. The opportunity has come about as a result of the family ancestral link and bond between the two countries.

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Amode who was fully represented by Hon. Jacob Kentomahun, Sole Administrator, Badagry Local Government lauded the project and assured undiluted support to the initiative to make the blacks in diaspora trace their root back to Africa especially Nigeria. It will also improve the local economy, which will motivate lots of tourist to visit the Badagry.

Hon Sani Akinsanya Ajose said this initiative is a tool to reconnect people in diaspora to trace their roots.
‘Badagry is a world known Tourist destination and this project will turn it to reality’. He also commended the ATLANTIC BOND INITIATIVE for the laudable project.

While speaking with journalists, Hon. (Engr) Setonji David, a member of Lagos State House of Assembly representing Badagry constituency II said ‘the present administration is an advocate of promotion of cultural tourism and which Badagry is a key tourist attraction with an unbelievable and pathetic historical background. He pledges his support to the ATBONDI for developing his constituency.
