Asaba airport opens for commercial flights
Asaba Airport commence commercial flights to and from Asaba, the capital of Delta State, last week following the successful installation of necessary navigational and operational facilities at the airport, the state Commissioner for Information, Chike C. Ogeah has said.
A statement from the commissioner said Abuja and Lagos are the two routes to be serviced by Overland Airways which will operate daily flights to both cities.
The first flight departs Asaba for Lagos at 11.30am while the Asaba to Abuja flight takes off at 2.15pm.
The Abuja-Asaba flight departs the Federal Capital City at 10am while the Lagos-Asaba flight takes off at 1.30pm. All the flights will be operated from Monday to Friday.
The airport has been certified for commencement of commercial flights by the National Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) which already have their complement of personnel on ground.
“A functional and well equipped fire service, the most modern control tower in the country with high technology consol and remote systems to control airfield lighting are all in place and fully functional,” the statement said.
He said the airport’s modern terminal building is equally in place and undergoing interior fittings.
